MECHANISM OF ACTION
PRASIL stimulates the mobility of upper gastrointestinal tract without affecting gastric, biliary, or pencreatic secretion and increases gastric peristalsis, leading to accelerated gastric emptying. PRASIL possesses parasympathomimetic activity as well as bring a dopamine-receptor antagonist with a direct effect on the chemoreceptor trigger zone. It may have serotonin(5HT) antagonist properties.
PRASIL is used in disorders of decreased gastrointestinal motility such as gastroparesis, in gastro-oesophageal reflux, disease, Dyspepsia, Nausea, and vomiting associated with various gastrointestinal disorders, with migraine, following surgery, and as an antiemetic to prevent or treat chemotherapy induced vomiting.
DOSAGE: As directed by the Physician
PRASIL can have nervous system side effects, such as depression, anxiety, sedation, restlessness, insomnia, hypotension, hypertension, dizziness. Parkinson patients can experience worsening of sysmtoms with PRASIL. It may impair the mental and/or physical abilities to drive or operate machinery.
PRASIL should not be used whenever stimulation of gastrointestinal mobility might be dangerious, e.g in the presence of gastrointestinal hmorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation. It is contraindicated in patients with pheochro-mocytoma because the drug may causea hypertensive crisis, probably due to release of catecholamines from the tumor. such hypertensive crises may be controlled by phen-tolamine. It is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity or intolerance to the drug.
It should be used with caution in Parkinson’s disease since, as a dopamine antagonist, it may worsen sysmtoms.
long-term use should be avoided in patients with clinical depression as it may worsen mental state. Use in Pregnancy is not advised.
The effects of sedative such as alcohol and diazepam can be accelerated when used together with PRASIL. It should not be taken with:
