DESCRIPTION:
Koff-Go Mint is a cough formula contianing Dextromethorphan for dry unproductive cough or if cough is unduely tiring or hazardious, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride used as decongestant and Chlorpheniramine Maleate an alkylamine derivative is an antihistamine that causes a moderate degree of sedation.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
They afford relief in cough due their action in the CNS to raise the threshold of cough center or act peripherally in the respiratory tract to reduce tussal impulses, Chlorpheniramine have sedative & anti cholinergic actions, but lack selectivity for the cough centre. Chlorpheniramine have sedative and anti cholinergic actions, but lack selective for the cough center. chlorpheniramine blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Chlorpheniramine is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itches; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold. Phenylephrine is an a 1-adregenergic receptor agonist used primary as a decongestant.
INDICATIONS
Complete relief from dry cough & cough due to cold.
Nonproductive cough caused by a cold and flu, or other conditions, decogestant,
Sneezing: runny nose; itching, water eyes;
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5ml) every 4 hours.
Adults: 2 teaspoonfuls (10m) every four hours.
CONTRAINDICATION
Hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the preparation.
PRECAUTIONS
Shake well before use. Avoid over medication.
May cause drowsiness in an occasional patient, so sedative materials like alcohol should be avoided.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Hypertensive crisis in patient receiving MAOIs. & drugs like amiodarone, fluoxetine, haloperidol affects the metabolism. Enhance the effects of sedstives like alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics.
SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness, dry mouth, G.I. disturbances, Excitation, Confusion and respiratory depression may occur after overdose.
